Specialties

My practice welcomes children (starting with pre-school age), adolescents, young adults, and families. Using a cognitive-behavioral approach, I help clients and their families with the following presentations below. In particular, I have familiarity with treating multiple diagnoses at once (i.e., comorbid diagnoses) and experience in working with clients who are facing chronic and severe difficulties as a result of their symptoms.

  • Depression, sadness, low self-esteem and withdrawal

  • Anxiety, such as:

    • Frequent worries or anxiety that lead to avoiding school or trying new things

    • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

    • Phobias - fear of vomiting, spiders, etc.

    • Refusing to go to school (School refusal or avoidance)

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD, ADD)

  • Oppositional (ODD) or difficult behaviors

  • Difficulty with parenting, and associated issues such as:

    • Conflict in the parent-child or family relationship

    • Parenting young adults who are having difficulty “launching” into adulthood

  • Adjustment and mood difficulties related to chronic medical conditions

Types of Therapy

I provide several types of treatment, both in person, and when appropriate, via teletherapy, which include:

Individual Therapy
Individual therapy provides clients the opportunity explore how different ways of thinking and behaving will lead to positive changes in their lives. Individual therapy is most appropriate for tweens and older, and often involves learning and practicing different skills, as well as tracking and assessing ones thoughts. When treating children, parents may occasionally be asked to join sessions in order to support their children being able to generalize and practice these skills outside of therapy.

Family Therapy
Family therapy is often a crucial part of therapy, as changing the family environment can impact how the parent and child relate to one another. For family therapy, I encourage all family members residing in the home, even siblings, attend the session as well.

Parenting Support and Therapy
In parenting therapy, I work with parents to help them find less stressful and more effective ways of communicating with children and finding ways to discipline. These approaches are grounded in research-based methods. I provide parenting therapy for parents who are interested in proactively addressing areas of difficulty, as well as parents of children with behavioral disorders who need a more systematic approach. In both situations, my goal is to help parents build upon their strengths to redefine their approach to parenting, as opposed to addressing specific scenarios or difficulties.

Treatment Consultations

Treatment consultations vary from 1 to 3 sessions in length and are intended to meet the needs of parents who are not sure where to start or are not seeking a full course of therapy. Whether you need one session to sketch out a general treatment plan, determine the next appropriate treatment steps after receiving a neuropsychological assessment report or a few sessions to brush up on parenting skills and tools, these sessions are tailored to meet your current goals and questions. Prior to meeting, I may ask you to provide any previous assessment reports or ask for permission to speak to prior therapists to be able to better support your needs. Please note that these consultations are intended to be brief interventions and may not lead to a longer course of treatment.
