About Dr. Sarah

Dr. Sarah

My name is Sarah Wu and I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PhD; Colorado PSY.0004902) in the Boulder, Colorado area serving children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I am also a PSYPACT provider, which allows me to treat clients residing in select states outside of Colorado.

I received my BS in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and completed my Master’s in Developmental Psychology from San Francisco State University. After my Master’s degree, I spent 3 years managing a developmental neuroscience lab (link) at Stanford University and studying math learning disabilities. I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder (CU), where my research under Dr. Erik Willcutt focused on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and learning disorders. While at CU, I received extensive training in the treatment and assessment of adults and youth in both private and community mental health settings.

My predoctoral internship/residency was at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Child Clinical Psychology, which provided focused training with children, adolescents, and young adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I then completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in Child Clinical Psychology at Seattle Children’s Hospital, receiving further in-depth training in using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat issues across the developmental spectrum. Some of my training experiences included providing treatment in an intensive OCD treatment program, evaluating and treating eating disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and providing acute crisis management and triaging. I also helped to develop an inpatient eating disorder treatment program and had the opportunity to supervise practicum students.

In addition to my graduate and postdoctoral training, I have attended trainings in:

  • Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

  • Suicide assessment and management

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia

  • Selective Mutism

  • Incredible Years parent management training

  • Ross Greene’s Collaborative and Proactive Solutions parenting management training

  • Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE)

I frequently attend trainings to ensure that I am providing the most up-to-date treatments available to my clients. When appropriate, I consult with other clinical psychologists and psychiatrists. Since Fall of 2019, I have served as a Senior Clinical Instructor for the Clinical Psychology PhD program at University of Colorado, Boulder. I also moonlight as a research and data analyst with Apple Inc and have given talks around the world on various topics related to mental health and psychology.

I believe that therapy should not be an indefinite process, particularly for youth and adolescents. My goal is to help my clients and their families learn the requisite skills so that they can engage with the outside world as much as possible.
